These strips are intended for the commercial market. For applications such as channel letters and curved / cove lighting, in fact the applications for this thin product are only limited to your imagination. The low profile of this product makes it ideal for use in very confined applications. This will allow for new lighting applications to flourish and provide for new methods of illuminating.

Other possibilities for this light source are for use in cabinet lighting. If there is one place that space is critical it's in cabinet lighting. Under cabinet lighting using this Flexible LED Strip would require very little mounting space.

Also used for:
• above cabinet lighting
• wall accent
• as a display light

In the past if you wanted to vertically light the interior of the cabinet you were limited to the incandescent tape light. In fact it could be used to replace most standard tape light applications.

To this end I will be building a Mission Style cabinet that will have the interior of the case lit with these LED Flexible Strips. The cabinet itself will be 5' tall x 20" or so wide and deep with a framed glass door.

I have taken some preliminary foot candle readings and found the White LED Strip has the following fc measurements. At 24" 15fc, at 20" 19fc, at 15" 34fc and at 12" 45fc. The LED spacing on these Strips is 11/16" which makes it a very even light source.

Update
Flexible LED Strips to be installed in this cabinet

Here is a working example of how these flexible led strips can be used for cabinet lighting.

This oak cabinet was constructed over the last couple of months and is now lit with the led strips discussed above.

Granted, this is a small project, but I was impressed with how easy and flexible this product is to work with.

The profile of the strip is only 1/8 inch, thus making it an ideal long life replacement for tape light.

Flexible LED Strips Installed

Here are the components that went into lighting this cabinet.

The top item is the cord that plugs into the transformer which is seen next.

Below that is the 1/2 inch double stick tape followed by the dc switch for the in side of the cabinet.

Lastly are the 4 flexible led strips.

Below I will show you how the led strips are fastened together.

Flexible LED Strip Materials

LED Strips with their bare wire ends

LED strips jioned together

Normally the strips are used in commercial applications such as channel letters and cove lighting etc. For those applications using wire nuts to wire these strips together would work just fine.

However, in this application wire nuts are not the best choice because we don't want to see unsightly wires and we want a clean looking instillation.

The best way to join these strips is by soldering the connections.

Something else you should know. Notice in the left image, do you see the break point about 2" from the end of the strip. These break off points are every 2" inches for the entire 20" length of the strip. So you can make the strip shorter if 20" is to long.

After the strips have been soldered you can install them inside the cabinet using double stick tape. Then connect to the transformer and switch. In this case the switch was located in the middle of the inside top of the door frame.

Other switching options could have been used such as a wireless remote or an inline cord switch. The switch I used was on the dc side of the transformer.

This is a high tech solution for led cabinet lighting. Some may prefer tape light. But this was easy to install and no bulbs to replace.
