I've been waiting for a couple of months to write about my experience with this new LED tape light product. It's slim, has plenty of lumens and does an excellent job of replacing the old incandescent tape light.
The idea of lighting a cabinet without the light source being readily visible is something that is very desirable and from a design point, can make lighting a more integral part of a project.
Before building this cabinet over the holidays of 2010 I had decided that lighting of some type was in order. After seeing the new LED tape light ribbon, I knew that I needed to incorporate it into the design of this project.
Please notice the "Black Arrows" This is where I decided to recess the LED tape light and locate a dual switch. The recess was cut in at the router table before the shelf and rail were assembled.
If you look closely at the arrow's location you'll see the routed recess into which the LED tape light ribbon was fastened.
The LED tape light comes with an adhesive backing and it's very easy to peel off the backing and sick the tape light right where you need it. I did take the time to seal the recess just to make sure that it was clean, dust free and to ensure proper adhesion.
As you can see, the result is evenly lit shelves, due to the spacing of the LED's.
These are perfect lights to add to the back of the cabinet and would be a big help when it comes to making the componet connections easy to see.
Another pleasent suprise was the lumen output of 85 when tested shelf to shelf. The warm white color tempature of the LED's also makes for a warm inviting look.
So the beauty of this light source can be easily seen as it lights up the contents of the open drawer. It's easy to work with and is small enough to be hidden easily while providing excellent lumens and a warm inviting color.
