 Torchiere Lamps
Torchiere Lamps | Torchiere lamps are available in Brushed Steel, White and Black these 65 watt fluorescent 3 way torchiere floor lamps are reliable and energy efficient.
You also have a choice of which type of fluorescent bulb to use. You can choose from the following types of bulbs.
- 2850° Kelvin (standard) bulb which provides a warm incandescent atmosphere.
- 4100° Kelvin bulb which is a standard color in many office environments today.
- 5100° Kelvin full spectrum bulb which will brighten any atmosphere.
The full spectrum torchiere lamp is an easy way to bring natural outdoor lighting into your surroundings. Additionally using the full spectrum bulb provides better visual clarity and brightness.
The wattage of this 3 way fluorescent torchiere floor lamp is 30/36/65 this is equivalent to incandescent wattage of 100/130/200. Each fixture uses a 27 watt and a 32 watt circline fluorescent bulb. Additional circline bulbs may be purchased at the above link. The electronic ballast allows for quiet operation and uses standard 120 volt power and this is also an energy star fixture. Torchiere lamps provide indirect lighting which can be very complementary to your decor.
If you are still using an older halogen lamp torchiere fixture you should read the next paragraph.
Fire Hazard With Old Style Halogen Torchiere Floor Lamps Halogen torchiere floor lamps, free-standing lamps with open, shallow bowl tops that provide indirect lighting have become popular since their introduction in the United States 1983. These lamps use halogen tubular bulbs, which get much hotter than standard light bulbs. Since the tops are open, flammable items (such as curtains) can easily ignite through direct contact with the halogen bulb.
Fluorescent torchiere lamps are now available. Instead of the halogen lamp, they have two circline fluorescent lamps, which draw up to 65 watts. To provide several light levels, the circline fluorescent torchieres contain two independently switched lamps. In contrast to halogens, circline operate at a cool 100° F. Being much more efficient, the circline lamps use only 15 to 25 percent of the power consumed by halogen lamps. Full Spectrum circline lamps also produce excellent color quality.
