Under Cabinet Lighting Help
The following information will explain the difference between the Hardwire Under Cabinet Lights and the Plug-In Under Cabinet Lights.
Depending on your skill level or preference you can make a choice between hardwire or plug-in fixtures.
The Hardwire Fixture is used mainly in contractor type applications. The new style fixture allows for a linking cable between fixtures. This fixture comes in a box and must be connected in a manner that meets your local electrical code. Most contractors and some do-it-yourselfers use this type of fixture because they understand how the installation process works. These hardwire fixtures have (5) 3/8" knockouts. Lamps are included with each fixture.
The Plug-In fixture can be installed with out the use of special conduit. Each fixture comes with a 6' power cord. If you have more than one fixture to install you just plug the next light into the previous one (with optional linking cord). The total watts used in one link should not be more than 600. These fixtures have (5) 3/8" knockouts. Lamps are included with each fixture. If you need further assistance please contact us and one of our lighting professionals will be glad to assist you.
Additional Helpful Information
Under Cabinet Lighting - Which Bulbs are Best? Currently the better fixtures use xenon bulbs. The reasons are because halogen bulbs have a very short life span of about 2,000 hours and if you touch them during instillation they will burn out even faster. Fluorescent bulbs can not be dimmed without the use of special expensive ballasts and dimmers. The bulbs used in these fixtures are Xenon bulbs and have an average life of 8,000 hours. Xenon bulbs can be dimmed with a standard dimmer. You can also touch Xenon bulbs without causing them to have early burnout.
Where Can They Be Used? Because of its small size and location (such as above counters) these task lighting fixtures can provide good ambient illumination for a large counter spaces. At night these units can be dimmed and provide good "mood lighting". These fixtures can be used very successfully wherever there are cabinets and a need for good illumination or as an accent in a confined space: under kitchen cabinets, in museum display cases, within some trade show exhibits, on office desk tops, at hospital work stations, in bookcases in studies or libraries, in display cases in restaurants, under tavern shelves or under bars, in bathroom linen closets, within bedroom shelving, in wall nooks along hallways or stairways, in dining room hutches, in living room shelving, and family room entertainment centers. |
