FULL SPECTRUM LIGHTING IMPROVES EDUCATION

The most important news in improving education in our schools since electric lighting is the use of fluorescent lighting that simulates natural light.

Classrooms lighted with Vita-Lite full spectrum lamps which simulate natural light unproved all aspects of learning for elementary school students:

  • Decreased classroom noise
  • Increased attention to teachers
  • More positive attitude
  • Better attendance
  • Increased basic skills
  • Better academic achievement
These very impressive results were based upon a comparison of classrooms: those lighted with Vita-Lite lamps and those lighted with Cool White, the lamps most commonly used in classrooms.

The lighting system was not changed; only the lamps were changed, a common routine in a school system. Nothing else was changed in the classrooms. Vita-Lite lamps enhanced the classroom environment, allowing for this spectacular student performance.

A COMMON INTEREST IN THE BEST LEARNING ENVIRONMENT!

The students' education is the reason for schools, teachers, administrators, school boards, office staff, service personnel and school taxes.

The concern that their child receives the best possible education and grows up to be a good and productive citizen is of the utmost importance to parents. They want their child to be comfortable with and have a positive attitude about learning. As well, they want their child to be comfortable with the teacher and other children in the classroom.

Parents and teachers generally want a school environment where their child can grow in social and educational ability. They want a school environment that is conducive to a positive learning attitude, experience and achievement.

The classroom teacher wants many of the same things for students that the parents desire. These common interests of parents and teachers have fostered the local, state and national parents teachers organizations which serve as a medium of communication for parents and teachers in their mutual assistance and alliance for the education of students.
A teacher wants a classroom environment that is conducive to educating children - a classroom that has all the essential educational tools for educational achievement (books, workbooks, visuals, pencils, paper, crayons, paints, etc.) and good lighting!

Both parents and teachers want classrooms that have windows, good lighting, pleasing colors, comfortable desks, comfortable temperatures, fresh air and all of the requisites which add up to an environment essential to both effectual teaching and learning, a classroom environment that results in:

  • Less classroom noise
  • Increased attention to the teacher
  • A positive learning attitude
  • Increased basic skills
  • Better academic achievement
Is all this improvement possible? It has been shown to be possible with good lighting. Now that it is known that good lighting is another educational tool which is essential to academic achievement, parents and teachers will want classrooms with good lighting.

STUDIES CONFIRM RESULTS

Good lighting is underlined because recent classroom studies have demonstrated these educational benefits and improvements - that simply changing fluorescent lamps from standard types to natural daylight simulating Vita-Lite results in these improved educational aspects in the classroom.

It should be noted that the studies were conducted in real classrooms in real schools with typical school students and teachers. These classrooms were not located in a research center and were not designed for special studies with specially selected students or teachers. The teaching and learning situations were real in every respect and so are the results.

Over 1200 U.S. schools, universities and libraries use Vita-Lite to improve their educational environment.

While it may be surprising to parents and teachers that good lighting with Vita-Lite full spectrum lamps is able to affect the many aspects of learning reported in the studies, at Duro-Test we are not at all surprised. Our many years of experience with Vita-Lite lighting in the successful improvement of industrial and commercial environments led us to believe that it was very
